Horror fans have had to endure a lot
in the
past few years: «Resident Evil,» «Dead Space» and «Alone
in the Dark,» once bastions of the genre, have become little more than action
games with grotesque enemies.
There's a delicate balance of tension that many
horror games can't seem to find, but
Past Cure felt just right
in this regard to me.
We asked The Chinese Room to make this
game because we loved the stuff they'd done
in the
past (especially an obscure
horror game called Korsakovia) and were curious to see what they'd do with the Amnesia universe.
For the
past decade, no other
game truly defined the survival -
horror genre until Dead Space was released back
in 2008.
If you can look
past the technical hiccups, this is a challenging and entertaining
horror game, irrespective of any franchise tie -

That said, looking
past my prior complaints about the
game, I can at least acknowledge RE0 provides a modest portion of engrossing survival
horror adventuring to be found
in a market where such things are still woefully underestimated.
The
game often offers you plenty of options of how you go about playing it, allowing you to sneak
past enemies or engage them directly; though
in good old survival
horror like fashion ammo can be somewhat of a precious commodity, so you'll have to make every shot count whenever you're using firearms, so it's not always the best option to go
in all guns blazing.
Released
in 2008 Dead Space was ahead of its time remaining one of the best
horror games released
in the
past decade.
The vast majority of
horror games I've played over the
past few months follow the same cliché trend of being set
in a first - person view for the obvious reason that it makes immersing yourself into the story a billion times easier.
The setting alone makes Detention more interesting than the seven trillion
horror games set
in a haunted house released over the
past few years (looking at you, Layers of Fear).
