hours of additional footage from the cutting room floor, a PG - 13 version of this movie would likely be 15 incoherent minutes at best.
New to the Blu - ray edition is something that many had hoped would be included 12 years ago on the DVD: more than two
hours of additional footage that did not make it into the film.

of this magnitude should, and presents the R - rated «Ultimate Edition» features 30 minutes
of additional footage not included in the original theatrical version and the extra scenes fill in subplots and supporting characters cut from the two - and - a-half
hour theatrical version.
And for those diehard fans who have been patiently awaiting the customary Extended Edition, it's arrived just in time for the holidays with 13 minutes
of additional footage, an audio commentary by Jackson and co-writer Philippa Boyens, and two entire discs
of supplemental material clocking in at over 9
hours.
