The more that I listen to
other women and families describe their experiences with
breastfeeding, I realize that
breastfeeding successfully has much to do with
how much support a new
mother is given by her partner, family, friends, and extended community (like parenting groups, hospitals, etc.).

And before I started to look at this issue, I'd actually been a
breastfeeding mother for seven years, believe it or not and when I started to read about this and talk to
other mothers and look at the literature, I was stunned by
how ignorant I had been of all the influences on me as a
breastfeeding mother and all the messages that are being sent to us about the purpose of our breasts and the idea of the primary purpose of our breasts being about Sex Attraction and you know I didn't realize I'd been fighting a struggle against all these messages as a
breastfeeding mother.
Many times on my Instagram forum and on
other online
mother forums, I see moms who ask
how to increase supply and many
other moms suggest
breastfeeding supplements.
The
other article, called «Guide to
Breastfeeding», gives
mothers information on
how to
breastfeed, but begins by stressing that «the best option isn't the easiest option».
There's so much to celebrate about
breastfeeding, and for me one of the most special things is
how much we can learn from each
other as
mothers.
