How did I come to decide that I wanted a
vaginal birth after a Caesarean in the first place — when so many people assume it's not possible?
Pregnancy books often include tips on
how to lower your «risk» of needing a cesarean, and then tout all the «benefits» of a
vaginal birth.
As I left the office and paid my co-pay, I was presented with a document and a sales pitch about
how I could go ahead and give them $ 7,500 for a
vaginal birth or $ 15,000 for a c - section
birth.
But like you say, without knowing
how gut flora works, and what ideal gut flora looks like, it's pretty impossible to say that
vaginal birth is a primary or even a contributing factor in developing a healthy microbiome.
Whether you're able to try for a
vaginal birth depends a lot on
how the babies «present» — that is,
how they're positioned in the uterus.
However, she quickly learned that you're not always in control of

First 2 were hospital
births... both yeilding a healthy baby and a
vaginal birth but I had SO many regrets about
how we got to that point.
There are so many variables to consider, like
how many times the mother has been pregnant,
how many times she's given
birth, whether they were C - sections or
vaginal, and if she suffered from health complications or abnormalities.
It doesn't matter
how many children you have had (or maybe you have not had any), if you've never experienced a
vaginal birth, or if you've never breastfed.
Okay, so to me, that meant a
vaginal birth but with a big old epidural to ease my pain, but still, I had this perfect vision in my head of
how my delivery would go.
This focuses a lot on not getting the
vaginal, natural
birth you may have wanted, but I wanted an unmedicated
birth, got it, and was traumatized by the complete lack of control I had over the situation and
how much it hurt.
The book examines: - why the research shows so little benefit for physiologic care and so little harm from medical - model management - what's behind the cesarean epidemic - what the research establishes as optimal care for initiating labor, facilitating labor progress, guarding maternal and fetal safety, birthing the baby, and promoting safety for mother and baby after the
birth - the true, quantified risks of primary cesarean surgery, planned VBAC versus elective repeat cesarean, instrumental
vaginal delivery, and regional analgesia -
how the organization of the maternity care system adversely impacts care outcomes

How can this be the case when only 67 % of
births end up
vaginal, and of those, most are medicated?
§ Model policy elements are 1) in - service training, 2) prenatal breastfeeding classes, 3) asking about mothers» feeding plans, 4) initiating breastfeeding within one hour of uncomplicated
vaginal birth, 5) initiating breastfeeding after recovery for uncomplicated Cesarean sections and / or showing mothers
how to express milk and maintain lactation if separated from infant, 6) giving only breast milk to breastfed infants, 7) rooming - in 24 hr / day, 8) breastfeeding on demand, 9) no pacifier use by breastfed infants, 10) referral of mothers with breastfeeding problems and / or referral of mothers to appropriate breastfeeding resources at discharge.
That some woo - ish acquaintance confirmed the pooping part while explaining
how great her tear is «almost unnoticeable» 3 years on was the last straw for me to not even try for
vaginal birth and just go for CS right away.

how other interventions such as gently stroking the baby changes pain - related brain activity or whether different experiences such as a
vaginal birth or C - section alters pain sensitivity in the newborn infant.»
This study also doesn't take into account the vast differences that can occur, even in babies born vaginally, depending on
how long the baby spent in the
birth canal, if the mother or baby received antibiotics, the mother's gut and
vaginal bacteria and a variety of other factors.
There is advice online about
how to find someone who will facilitate a natural or
vaginal birth, but no questions to ask that will help you find a doctor to support you through the ups and the downs.
I found it surprising just
how much it resembled a
vaginal birth.
A physical therapist can also teach women
how to coordinate their abdominal and pelvic floor muscles in order to facilitate
vaginal birth.
