Bavington, who lives in Las Vegas, makes a good example of
how younger abstract painters reinterpret the styles of an earlier generation.
In an informal lecture given many years ago, the
abstract painter Robert Ryman remarked that abstraction is such a relatively
young form of art that it was impossible for him to fathom
how anyone could suggest that it might be exhausted.
