Kenneth Gage, plague section chief of the CDC, notes that historically plague may have been transmitted among humans by the so -
called human flea, Pulex irritans, or via airborne transmission.
Signs of
human flea bites are usually on the lower parts of the body where the flea attempted to bite after leaping up from the ground.
The reason that
most human flea bites are found in the lower leg / ankle region is that the flea in question will have jumped up from the thick carpet and taken a chunk out of you as you passed through its habitat.
Fleas - Cat Fleas Dog Fleas
Human Fleas What is the difference between cat fleas and dog fleas.
Perhaps
the human flea functioned in the same way to pass on increasingly virulent strains of Y. pestis.
Thus the virulence of a disease transmitted by
the human flea should markedly increase, producing a more rapid course of illness and a higher death toll.
Nonetheless, Pulex irritans,
the human flea, is a much less efficient vector of plague than the rat flea Xenopsylla cheopis.
Scientists have long held the notion that
human fleas and lice spread the Black Death.
There are three primary species of flea that dog and cat owners should be concerned about: the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis), the dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis), and
the human flea (Pulex irritans).
Dog fleas will also cross over to cats and humans, and
human fleas will feed on people, dogs, hogs, and poultry.
Fleas - Cat Fleas - Dog Fleas -
Human Fleas The most common flea found on dogs and cats is the cat flea.
I am wondering though, are
the human flea (Pulex irritans) eggs also not hard?
And
human fleas (P. irritans) are pretty rare.
However, there is another species that this website doesn't focus on, which is somewhat rare, called
the human flea (P. irritans).
