One Tail at a Time PDX is a no - kill, 501 (c) 3 all - breed dog rescue committed to lowering

Trap / Neuter / Return
programs are a

euthanasia of the free - roaming cats living in our environment and, when well - managed, are more effective at reducing the population.
CAAWS can provide limited assistance trapping cats dependent upon volunteer availability The TNR
program has been proven to be the
humane alternative of controlling cat reproduction, and helps to reduce the
euthanasia rates at local municipal animal shelters.
These
programs include providing
humane education in local schools with an emphasis on spay / neuter, hosting mobile shelter adoptions, and rescuing animals that have been abused, neglected and / or are at risk of
euthanasia.»

The most important step a
humane community can take to decrease companion animal overpopulation is to make a safe, effective, voluntary spay / neuter
program available and readily accessible to the community, and create
programs and incentives targeted to the populations known to be contributing disproportionately to shelter intake and
euthanasia.
In Florida, a study of feral cats admitted to a trap - neuter - return (TNR)
program concluded that «
euthanasia for debilitated cats for
humane reasons is rarely necessary».
