The Bangladeshi
humanist blogger and author Ananta Bijoy Das has been hacked to death in Sylhet by four masked men wielding machetes and cleavers.
And
the humanist blogger Brendan O'Neill drew attention to the real motivation of some of his fellow atheists:

another Humanist blogger turned me onto it, and I've really enjoyed it.
The British Humanist Association (BHA) has reacted with shock at the news, and alarm at the continued lack of care by both the Bangladeshi authorities who have failed to protect
the humanist bloggers and fact that he was unable to find asylum in Europe.

In Pakistan, multiple
humanists have been sentenced to death for blasphemy, and a number of
bloggers were «forcibly disappeared» by the state.
The initiative was conceived by science teacher and
blogger Ian Horsewell, and is supported the British
Humanist Association.
Making the award, Alom Shaha, a trustee of the British
Humanist Association and author of The Young Atheist's Handbook, commented «This award is for al those
bloggers who would not retreat; it is for those who were arrested and detained on grossly unfair charges».
In 2014 the BHA awarded the
bloggers the Free Expression Award at the World
Humanist Congress in Oxford, the theme of which was freedom of speech and expression; Mohiuddin collected the award on behalf of his fellow
bloggers.
Ahead of her first public address following the brutal murder of her husband at the hands of Islamic extremists, Bangladeshi
blogger Bonya Ahmed has called on the UK Government to do more in tackling extremism at home and to put pressure on international governments to tackle the growing persecution of
humanists and the non-religious internationally.
