Most, (the vast majority BTW) sceptics I know aren't sceptical about
humans causing climate change at all.

«A full reading of Bernstein's email reveals an important point ---- his assertion that, in the 1980s, we never denied the possible role of
human activity as a
cause for
climate change, and he further makes clear that,
at that point in time, there was a great deal of uncertainty and lack of understanding of
climate change, even among leading scientists and experts,» said Keil, adding that today, Exxon «believes the risk of
climate change is clear, and warrants action.»
Given my rather public skepticism of the thesis that
humans are
causing any significant
climate change, my friend Bob Benne, who is the director of the ethics center
at Roanoke College, invited me down to Roanoke to debate Mr. Cizik on these matters.
A Washington Post-Stanford University poll in June found 77 percent of Americans say rising global temperatures are
at least partly the result of
human activity, while 22 percent said that
climate change is the result only of natural
causes.

The September report raised the probability that
human actions, led by the use of fossil fuels, are the main

at least 95 percent from 90.
The commission, formed by the Rockefeller Foundation and the British medical journal The Lancet, investigated the links between Earth's natural systems and
human well - being, looking
at how
climate change and resource depletion
cause problems like infectious disease and malnutrition.
While some may see evidence of rapid glacier thinning in the past and again today as evidence that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is nearing a collapse driven by

at this point, scientists just don't know whether that is the case.

At first, White was convinced that
humans would understand the obvious implications of his ice - core data: The consequences of

This view is

at odds with pretty much every
climate scientist on the planet and the majority of the U.S. public.
The acknowledged role of sunspots and cosmic rays in forming clouds has been fertile ground for
climate deniers, who have cast doubt on whether anthropogenic
climate change (in other words,

humans) is occurring

The news of the increase in U.S.
human -
caused GHG emissions comes
at a critical moment in the global battle against
climate change, particularly after the International Energy Agency announced last month that global carbon emissions related to energy consumption have stabilized for the first time in a growing economy.
As for the long - running political controversy about
climate change, especially about the degree to which
human activity
causes it, the scientists said it tends to become relevant mainly when they are dealing with long time frames — say 30 years or more — and mostly
at the top echelons of the political hierarchy.
«The study participants were deeply divided along partisan lines, with about 50 % saying they do believe in
human -

at Yale Law School and the lead researcher on the study.

According to one study that looked
at eight fuel aridity metrics in the Western U.S. and modeled
climate change's effects on them,
human -
caused climate change accounted for about 55 percent of the observed increases in fuel aridity between 1979 and 2015 (Figure 6), and added an estimated 4.2 million hectares of forest fire area between 1984 and 2015.7 Based on all eight metrics, the Western U.S. experienced an average of 9 additional days per year of high fire potential due to
climate change between 2000 and 2015, a 50 percent increase from the baseline of 17 days per year when looking back to 1979.
In 2008, Jay Lehr spoke
at Heartland's conference for
climate change deniers on how, «
humans are not the
cause of Global Warming»
However,
at the increased levels seen since the Industrial Revolution (roughly 275 ppm then, 400 ppm now; Figure 2 - 1), greenhouse gases are contributing to the rapid rise of our global average temperatures by trapping more heat, often referred to as
human -
caused climate change.
As the graph below from Spracklen's News and Views article shows, the balance between warming (red shading) and cooling (blue shading) have kept the country's contribution to
human -
caused climate change pegged
at about 10 % in recent decades, despite soaring fossil fuel emissions.
«
Climate change, as well as
human -

at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.

Why do folk such as Fred Singer, Sallie Baliunas, Richard Lindzen, Pat Michaels, Bill Gray and others use their scientific credentials
at every possible opportunity when they speak out against the reality of
human caused climate change?
I was somewhat involuntarily thrust into the center of the public debate over
climate change at this very time, when the «Hockey Stick» temperature reconstruction I co-authored, depicting the unprecedented nature of modern warming in
at least the past millennium, developed into an icon in the debate over
human -
caused climate change [particularly when it was featured in the Summary for Policy Makers (SPM) of the Third Assessment Report of the IPCC in 2001].

There's quite a contrast between Curbelo's position and the shape - shifting views of presidential hopeful Senator Marco Rubio, who in 2014 said, «I do not believe that
human activity is
causing these dramatic
changes to our
climate the way these scientists are portraying it,» and continues,
at best, to offer oblique, meaningless replies when the issue comes up.
Live Updates Below and see new post Richard Muller, a cantankerous but creative physicist
at the University of California, Berkeley, who once derided
climate change research, then dove in with his own reconstruction of terrestrial temperature
changes and confirmed substantial warming, has now concluded that recent warming is «almost entirely»
human caused.
Any useful summary of knowledge on the
causes and consequences of
climate change and possible responses would have to include a hard look
at the substantial (and sobering) body of work on what shapes
human behavior: how people absorb or ignore scientific information — including the
climate panel's own reports — and what roadblocks in
human behavior await the menu of possible policy options for limiting
climate - related risks.
Hundreds of private e-mails and documents hacked from a computer server
at a British university are
causing a stir among global warming skeptics, who say they show that
climate scientists conspired to overstate the case for a
human influence on
climate change.
In both the film and
at the meeting, they displayed widely varied views on the
causes of
climate change but with one common thread: that any
human influence, if it exists, is inconsequential.
Alarmed

human - induced
climate change, including accelerating melting and loss of ice from Greenland, the Himalayas and Antarctica, acidification of the world's oceans due to rising CO2 concentrations, increasingly intense tropical cyclones, more damaging and intense drought and floods, including glacial lakes outburst loods, in many regions and higher levels of sea - level rise than estimated just a few years ago, risks
changing the face of the planet and threatening coastal cities, low lying areas, mountainous regions and vulnerable countries the world over,
The
climate -
change debunkers include Richard S. Lindzen, 67, a meteorologist
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who claims that
human -
caused warming is inconsequential, and Michael Crichton, 64, the novelist and moviemaker.
Public opinion on
climate change — whether it is «happening,» is «
human caused,» etc. — didn't move an inch
at all during that time.
But overwhelming scientific evidence shows that, along with other greenhouse gases, CO2
causes ocean acidification and fuels
climate change, putting
humans and other life
at risk.
This way, catastrophic floods and devastating droughts which occur
at the same time and in the same place can be said to be
human -
caused, and each single event can necessarily be claimed to have been driven by anthropogenic
climate change.
It is likely to affirm that scientists are more certain than ever —
at least 95 %, up from 90 % previously — that
climate change is happening and is mostly
caused by
human actions, but it may suggest that the
climate is slightly less sensitive to carbon than some outlying research has posited.
What's lost in a lot of the discussion about
human -
caused climate change is not that the sum of
human activities is leading to some warming of the earth's temperature, but that the observed rate of warming (both
at the earth's surface and throughout the lower atmosphere) is considerably less than has been anticipated by the collection of
climate models upon whose projections
climate alarm (i.e., justification for strict restrictions on the use of fossil fuels) is built.
The truth is that ALEC has crafted model legislation that misrepresents the science of
climate change and hosted prominent
climate science deniers
at its conferences, and ALEC officials — including CEO Lisa Nelson — have refused to acknowledge or outright denied the scientific consensus that burning fossil fuels and other
human activities are
causing climate change.
To this point, the City of Miami began a combined program of installing pumps to rid streets of flooding
at times of high tide and has assessed a property tax to begin its efforts to fight the surge of waters set off by
human caused climate change.
In the first presidential debate, though the moderator disappointingly failed to ask a question about was is arguably the single most critical issue facing
human civilization today —
human -
caused climate change — the Democratic nominee for President, Hillary Clinton, forced the issue herself by calling out Donald Trump for his denial of
climate change, noting that he, for example, in a past tweet dismissed
climate change as a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese (indeed Trump has posted
at least a half - dozen
climate change - denying tweets over the past few years).
In addition, if
climate change is a moral problem, even assuming counter-factually that there is considerable scientific uncertainty about whether
humans are
causing serious global warming, those who are putting others
at risk have duties to not endanger vulnerable people without their consent.
As I heard Penn State

So because the Earth was much warmer many millions of years ago and the Earth's
climate has naturally
changed due to asteroid impact, volcanic eruptions,
changes in the solar flux, the emergence of plants which produced ~ 20 % oxygen content in the air and which in turn allowed animals to evolve, there's just no way that 7 billion
humans can
cause any problem
at all.
Obama's disingenuous Tweet, whether it be «dangerous», «catastrophic» or «apocalyptic» — and he did use the word dangerous — is disingenuous because there is no such consensus on the dangers of
climate change, only that
climate is
changing and it is likely

climate change, including accelerating melting and loss of ice from Greenland, the Himalayas and Antarctica, acidification of the world's oceans due to rising CO2 concentrations, increasingly intense tropical cyclones, more damaging and intense drought and floods, including Glacial Lakes Outburst Floods, in many regions and higher levels of sea - level rise than estimated just a few years ago, risks
changing the face of the planet and threatening coastal cities, low lying areas, mountainous regions and vulnerable countries the world over...»
