Those who
know more
about climate science, for example, are slightly more likely to accept that global warming is real and caused by
humans than those who
know less on the subject.
The more we
know about natural rapid
climate change, the better we can help
climate modelers forecast how
climate might change in the future now that
human activity is added to the mix.»
The bottom line, according to a group of experts not involved in any of these studies: Scientists don't
know much
about how sunlight interacts with our planet, and until they understand it, they can't accurately predict any possible effects of
human activity on
climate change.
(d) He said the fourth system change concerns the way we organize ourselves as
humans, urging us to make sure our organizational principles align with what we
know about the planet (he admitted he fully accepts the
climate change science).
Well I wanted to let you
know that Petcurean has recently launched a brand new line of pet food called «Gather», and the idea behind Gather is to provide food for dogs and cats with sustainability and transparency and organic ingredients are the key aspects of the brand, and we
know that one of the biggest trends right now in both the
human and pet food arenas are... global warming,
climate change, extremes in weather, it's all on their minds, so we just launched Gather in August of this year and we'll be starting to stress the food to reach all stores in October, so we're really excited
about that.
In light of the hard - won scientific consensus developed by the IPCC, has the time not yet come to «center» our discussion on what we
know of
climate change, based upon good science, and talk
about what we are going to do in order to address the
human - driven predicament in which humanity finds itself in these early years of Century XXI?
1) Be a confident communicator 2) Talk
about the real world, not abstract ideas 3) Connect with what matters to your audience 4) Tell a
human story 5) Lead with what you
know 6) Use the most effective visual communication Each is supported with references to the relevant literature and with
climate - related («real world») examples that are themselves confidently communicated with effective visuals.

climate change to water sloshing in a shallow pan — lots of motion but little real significance.
It's also important to examine whether a world without such efforts — in which citizens had a clear view of both what is
known, and uncertain,
about the
human factor in shaping
climate - related risks — would appreciably change.
This line from the 2007 report's chapter on
human health is
about as straightforward as any language can be: «Despite the
known causal links between
climate and malaria transmission dynamics, there is still much uncertainty
about the potential impact of
climate change on malaria at local and global scales.»
The team ran a suite of 400 computer simulations incorporating both what is
known about how the
climate could react to a greenhouse - gas buildup and a wide range of variations in the global economy and other
human factors that might affect the outcome.
A new commentary by Edward Maibach, Teresa Myers and Anthony Leiserowitz in Earth's Future notes that most people don't
know there is a scientific consensus
about human - caused
climate change, which undermines public engagement on the subject.

Specifically, there's a case for avoiding continued dependence on fossil fuels that persuades me regardless of what scientists think they
know about the long - term
human impact on our
climate.
For example, people who
know more
about science also tend to perceive strong consensus among
climate scientists that
human activity is responsible for
climate change.
Anyone who
knows anything
about climate change and how
human causes are affecting
climate change also
know we don't have decades to act.
curryja - When I hear a panel of the nation's leading neuro - scientists admit that they
know so very little
about the
human mind and are not ashamed to express some humility
about their lack of complete knowledge, and then I read how so many climatologists use such absolutist terms in what is going on with our
climate, it stretches credulity.
There are many instances in the past where
climate changes have been caused by
Humans; so
no doubt
about AGW.
I don't
know about you, but it seems to me that most of those abstracts mention global
climate change but not global warming or
human influence upon the
climate change.
CNN Moderator Mr. President, Governor Romney, we don't really
know whether or not
human activity has caused any substantial warming, but we do
know from
climate scientists that if whoever gets elected does not do something very drastic and costly
about it we'll all die a horrible death.
We
know that, with only
about 0.7 degrees Centigrade of warming manifest, the Earth's
climate is changing in sharp, abrupt ways, and that all sorts of terrifying, unprecedented risks are now facts of
human life.
The letter begins «As you
know, an overwhelming majority of
climate scientists are convinced
about the potentially serious adverse effects of
human - induced
climate change on
human health, agriculture, and biodiversity.»
I
know there have been surveys that aim to show the level of consensus on the existence of man - made
climate change, but were
climate scientists polled
about «potentially serious adverse effects... on
human health, agriculture and biodiversity»?
Most, (the vast majority BTW) sceptics I
know aren't sceptical
about humans causing
climate change at all.
The story goes that The University of Arizona has been, ``... ordered (by the Arizona Supreme Court
no less) to surrender emails by two UA scientists that a group claims will help prove that theories
about human - caused
climate change are false and part of a conspiracy.»
The
climate system is highly non-linear8 and relatively little is
known about the effect on temperature changes resulting from
human contributions to the changing three - dimensional distributions of ozone and aerosols, either or both of which may have been partially responsible for the observed discrepancy between surface and lower to mid-tropospheric temperature changes.
Pruitt answered: «
No, I think that measuring with precision
human activity on the
climate is something very challenging to do, and there's tremendous disagreement
about the degree of impact.
I
know this
about climate... at one time or another the earth was a. a ball of fire; b. a ball of ice; c. a vast desert; d. totally enveloped in water; and in all those cases completely uninhabited by
humans.
This means that the scientific literature is
no longer a representation of the state of
human knowledge
about the
climate.
Click me to see what Rs & Ds think
climate scientists think! The small fraction of those who do
know a lot — who can consistently identify what the best available evidence suggests
about the causes and consequences of
human - caused
climate change — are also the most polarized in their professed «beliefs»
about climate change.
My own personal bias is that conspiracy ideation, and offering hyperbolic rhetoric is not disproporationate on one side of the
climate wars compared to the other, and further, that what we
know about human psychology and cognition would make such an outcome implausible.
If I attempt to put myself in the position of a robot from Mars who doesn't
know anything
about the
climate change debate except that it seems important to
humans, I don't believe I could conclude that anyone was «taken to the cleaners» in this exchange (assuming a robot from Mars
knows what that expression means:) I think I'd have to conclude that both participants were framing the issue in different ways and so there wasn't a meeting of minds, nor any change of the needle by either one on the attitudes of the other, nor likely much to help inform locals who were just as mystified by the debate as I was.
I'm not sure where this notion came from that only a special breed of
human known as a climatologist is equipped to talk
about climate change.
So wrote the celebrated Stanford University psychologist Leon Festinger (PDF), in a passage that might have been referring to
climate change denial — the persistent rejection, on the part of so many Americans today, of what we
know about global warming and its
human causes.
There is
no longer any question
about «whether»
human activities are changing the
climate; instead research must tackle the urgent questions of: «how fast?»
Hans von Storch accurately describes our current knowledge
about climate change: We
know that the earth has warmed and we can't explain this warming without considering the
human - induced increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Pruitt replied, «
No, I think that measuring with precision
human activity on the
climate is something very challenging to do, and there's tremendous disagreement
about the degree of impact.
In January 2006 economist John Quiggan wrote on his blogsite: «There's
no longer any serious debate among
climate scientists
about either the reality of global warming or
about the fact that it's substantially caused by
human activity»
In a May 10, 2016, article, Almost Everything You
Know About Climate Change Solutions Is Outdated, Part 1, Joe Romm says climate science and climate politics have moved unexpectedly quickly toward a broad understanding that we need to keep total human - caused global warming as far as possible below 2 degrees C (3.6 degrees F)-- and ideally to no more than 1.5 deg

It's been a bit of a surprise for the
climate boffins that
no matter how much faster
humans introduce CO2 into the atmosphere only
about half of it remains in the atmosphere.
Seven in ten Americans think that global warming is happening, and almost three in five think that, if it is happening, it is mostly owing to
human activity, but only
about one in seven
know that nearly all
climate scientists agree that global warming is happening as a result of
human activity.
but
climate scientists don't
know a lot
about human behavior.
«I think that measuring with precision

Although most U.S. adults believe that the
climate is changing, only
about half
know that
human activities are substantially responsible.
Scheduled speakers include some of the nation's best -
known global warming skeptics, including Anthony Watts, a television weatherman; Timothy Ball, a former University of Winnipeg professor who has been sued for libel by Michael Mann, a prominent mainstream
climate scientist; and Alan Carlin, a former Environmental Protection Agency analyst who claims he was muzzled when he raised questions
about the agency's finding that atmospheric carbon dioxide is a threat to
human health and the environment.
To this point Dr. Curry stated that there is ignorance
about what is
known and what is not
known about natural
climate variability and the feedback processes, IOW whether
human - induced global
climate change is a real potential problem for humanity and our environment or not.
Then there's this juicy bit of «communication»: ``... it suffices to say that the
climate scientists have little doubt
about the
human impact on the
climate...» Of course, like so much science non-communication, this is followed up by some vague qualifying
about extent etc so you don't really
know if the first bit is a sly consensus message or just a truism.
