a humectant like honey, plain yogurt or glycerin along with water.

humectant is raw honey and you want to mix that with a moisturizing oil
like jojoba or extra virgin coconut oil.
Like most algaes and seaweeds, plankton deeply hydrates the skin, making it an excellent
humectant in this formula.
Calendula flower is a great substitute for mineral oil when you'd
like to replace it with a natural
humectant.
Look for moisturizers that contain ingredients
like keratin or collagen, lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum or
humectants for the best effects.
After using a product
like the DermaPet mentioned above for bathing, if a dog has dry skin, there is some benefit to using a bath oil, conditioner, emollient (allow oils to enter the skin) or
humectant (moisturize by trapping water in the skin).
