I know very little about tropical dynamics, but have a half - thought question related to the tropical lapse rate: Is there a simple argument for why the relative
humidity over land is expected to remain fixed?
According to Isaac Held, climate models predict that the relative
humidity over oceans will have to rise about 1 % (a 5 % increase in 1 — RH) to suppress surface evaporation which would otherwise rise at 7 % / degC and create a surface energy imbalance (because DLR increases with warming nearly as fast as OLR).
For Europe specifically, it is estimated that the CO2 flux from land vegetation contributes to reduce the global net flux associated with atmospheric growth of CO2, but the relative magnitude of this sink has been decreasing since the 1990s (from capturing 40 % of the global growth previously, to about 20 % now), likely further to changes in the atmospheric transport of heat and
humidity over Europe.
If someone is still bothered by this, imagine that the relative
humidity over this patch of the ocean is 100 % and the wind is zero.
The results of the study indicate that climatic changes have driven up multiyear averages of thunderstorm - related normalized losses since 1970 and that anthropogenic climate change, most likely responsible for increasing levels of
humidity over time, is fully consistent with this change.
In recent decades the ITCZ has been migrating north moving it farther away from Easter Island and as that distance increases absolute
humidity over Easter Island will necessarily decrease which necessarily means in increasing temperature delta between daytime high and nighttime low.

humidity over time for tropical South America.
Hoskins: If the tropical near surface specific
humidity over tropical land has not gone up (Fig 5) presumably that could explain why the expected amplification of the warming in the tropics with height has not really been detected.

humidity over the period from 1979.
Relative humidity was also low over much of the Middle East, although the south of Saudi Arabia had above - average rainfall and correspondingly above - average relative
humidity over the past twelve months.

humidity over the past twelve months.
As a simple test for the model, we calculate the remaining quantity that is not used for the computation of α (t) and β (t), the specific
humidity over land The resulting model estimate of the specific humidity q ′ L compares reasonably well (Fig.
The absolute humidity will be largely set by the oceans, so water vapor and will increase but relative
humidity over land will largely decrease, resulting in less precipitation than one would otherwise expect, given Clausius - Clapeyron and a constant residence time.
Perhaps the «unexplained» increase in late 20th century temperature has simply been a response to decreasing
humidity over the oceans?
However, the critical threshold R C is independent of ɛ, and thus the calculation depends only on relatively robust averaged values of precipitation, net radiation, average temperature difference between land and ocean, specific
humidity over ocean, and the natural constants ρ, L, and C p.
However, the available data now show evidence for global increases in upper - tropospheric specific
humidity over the past two decades (Figure TS.8).
Those curves, as the legend makes plain, show the evolution of relative
humidity over time at different altitudes in the atmosphere.
As we're going to be dealing with blistering heat and wilting
humidity over the next couple of days, it's important to think about safety.
Avoid
humidity over 20 %.
Moreover, the models also found that warming leads to more
humidity over the Pacific, which should have caused more rainfall, not less.

I brought dozens of souvenirs from home to tide me
over until my next trip back in the fall, but by far the best of them all was this perfect summer uniform, thrifted from Goodwill and Uptown Cheapskate with a pair of totally destroyed DIY denim cutoffs tying it all together, and it works for the Cape, the lake, the city, the

Like Facebook postings or tweets that get shared

William and Stillwell chose to study green roofs

And a third found that climate - induced sea - surface temperature anomalies
over the northeast Pacific were driving storms (and moisture) away from California, but the warming also caused increased
