Community at Harvard, evangelical Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Zoroastrians, along with a number of atheists, were among those represented at a recent meal packaging event for
hungry kids in the Boston area.
Last summer, we had a meal program where we served lunch (free of charge) to
kids in the
community who always get there two meals a day at school but go
hungry during the summer.
This huge ministry — which offers housing for the homeless, food for the
hungry, preschool for
kids whose families couldn't afford it otherwise, green groceries
in a food desert, and a
community to belong to — started out with Arloa scooping out spaghetti to a couple of homeless guys
in her church's side office.
That breaks down to over $ 400,000
in local scholarship funds, $ 200,000 to Sonoma County Education programs, $ 100,000 to local sports and
community programs, and on a national level, $ 250,000 to Share Our Strength's No
Kid Hungry Campaign.

This work is accomplished through the No
Kid Hungry network — private citizens, public officials, non-profits, business leaders, and others, who provide innovative hunger solutions
in their

The effort aims to eliminate food waste and to provide extra nutrition both to
hungrier kids in the cafeteria and to needy residents
in communities in Orlando and Osceola counties, among others, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
