A note about my bias: I have been self - publishing exclusively since late 2011, although I'm technically a hybrid author.
(Note: I'm both an indie - published author and a self - published author — a hybrid — right now.)
Publisher's Weekly took note of a recent promotion by Amazon of a traditional - turned - indie author, what some in the industry are now referring to as a hybrid author, and the tone of the original announcement by Amazon is almost inflammatory.
* Note: some «hybrid» presses offer authors a cost - sharing arrangement under which the author has more control and receives a higher share of the profits; however, this is not a «traditional» deal — have an agent or lawyer review any hybrid contract before you sign.
Note that some authors are hybrid authors — they work for trad publishers and they do some indie work.
On a more serious note, I couldn't imagine (as Deanna Chase brought up) being a hybrid author and having to choose which books I could and couldn't promote, based on nothing but the method of publishing.
