Vicodin is used to treat pain using the narcotic
hydrocodone and acetaminophin (which is also
found in Tylenol), is the most popular drug in the US.
Beginning in 2013, cops doing drug busts encountered a surprise: instead of
finding illegal
hydrocodone and oxycodone inside pills labeled Norco and Percocet, they
found a much stronger drug: fentanyl.
Pills
found in his home were labeled «Watson 385,» a stamp used to identify some
hydrocodone - based painkillers, but tests revealed that those pills contained fentanyl.
Schneiderman's report
found that prescriptions for painkillers like
hydrocodone and oxycodone have ballooned over the last decade in all corners of the state.

A 2014 federal change that limited the dispensing of
hydrocodone products may be indirectly contributing to the illegal use of some of those drugs, a study by University of Texas Medical Branch researchers has
found.
Their study, published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry,
found that this new vaccine was not only effective in preventing heroin from reaching the brain but worked with other commonly abused opioids as well, including
hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, and codeine.
Benoit was also
found to have Xanax,
hydrocodone and increased testosterone levels which was caused by an exogenous synthetic form of the hormone.
People taking codeine appeared to have a higher risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular events compared to those taking
hydrocodone, the study
found.
