It may be tempting to run
out and buy skin care
products to treat these conditions, but in most cases its best to continue good
hygiene habits and let nature take its course... this too will pass.
That story never panned
out, but at some point, during my educational career the environmental impact of feminine
hygiene products came up.
For example, if your daughter's calendar reveals that she breaks
out 1 - 2 days before her period, she can take extra precautions to prevent those breakouts by practicing good
hygiene and using over-the-counter
products to prevent or treat the breakouts right away.
I find that making my own baby
hygiene products cuts
out a lot of the chemicals, but I'm slacking (ie, don't have the time...) and have yet to whip up another container of wipes...
One of the great tips I got from Gorgeously Green is to check
out all of your beauty, hair care, and personal
hygiene products on Skin Deep: the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Safety Database.
The bill eliminates feminine
hygiene products — including tampons, pads and sanitary napkins — from the 4 percent state sales tax, and would also have the effect of wiping
out any country sales taxes on the
products.
Speakers also pointed
out that a number of bills pertaining to issues specifically affecting women, citing access to feminine
hygiene products as an example, were introduced by female Council members.
I suspect we will continue to find
out more and more about the importance of avoiding chemicals in feminine
hygiene products, but there are some great options already available.
Unfortunately, they are wiped
out by modern
hygiene and lifestyles such as the use of anti-bacterial soap, and other personal care
products loaded with un-bacteria-friendly ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate.
While I anxiously waited for my period (to test
out my new Blossom cup, of course), I read up on differences between menstrual cups and other feminine
hygiene products such as tampons and pads.
I truly believe that without detoxing my personal
hygiene routine (I personally started using this soap and this deodorant to great effect and cut
out every
product from my self - care routine) the rest of the steps ahead wouldn't have done nearly as much.
