Sentences with word «hyperoxia»

This study therefore was designed to examine the regulatory role of CGRP in the Wnt7b / β - catenin pathway in type II alveolar epithelial cell (AEC II) under hyperoxia.
Results: In the rat lung, both Wnt7b and β - catenin proteins were detectable, and hyperoxia significantly increased Wnt7b and β - catenin protein expression.
Whereas normal Po 2s were maintained at the inner and outer border of the avascular region during hyperoxia, Qav was not restored to normal, suggesting that other factors are involved in photoreceptor dysfunction during detachment in addition to insufficient oxygen delivery.
Methods: Rat neonates and AEC II from premature rats were exposed to hyperoxia in the absence or presence of CGRP, Wnt7b and β - catenin protein levels were measured by Western blot analysis, while T cell factor (TCF) and c - myc mRNA levels were determined by reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT - PCR).
AEC II, after exposure to hyperoxia, had significantly higher levels of Wnt7b and β - catenin proteins, and TCF and c - myc mRNAs, which was further enhanced by CGRP.
Conclusions: CGRP stimulates the expression of multiple molecules in the Wnt 7b / β - catenin pathway in AEC II under hyperoxia, which might be part of the mechanism by which CGRP protects the lung from hyperoxia - induced injury.
The present work suggests that hyperoxia is protective because it allowed increased photoreceptor oxygen consumption.
Research has shown that hyperoxia (too much oxygen) and hypoxia (too little oxygen) can damage our cells, leading to overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) or free radicals (chemical derivatives of oxygen that have a free electron and because of this are very unstable and highly reactive).
-15 minutes of hypoxic / hyperoxic training on my bicycle, which is set up next to a LiveO2 unit that allows me to switch between hypoxia (low oxygen) and hyperoxia (high oxygen) as I work through a series of short, explosive sprints.
