iBook format is richer, and Apple certainly has greater market share for devices than Amazon.

Something that should be mentioned about the iBook author format is that the license agreement stipulates you can only charge for a book in
iBooks format when you distribute it through Apple's store, not if it's available elsewhere.
Apple's free iBooks Author software for the Mac also includes features for making visually complex interactive books in the company's

While I'm very excited about the opportunity to use
iBooks Author as a single tool to create fixed -
format ebooks for the three major retailers that accept them (Apple, Kobo, and Amazon), I'm less sanguine about using the app to create reflowable ebooks — unless I'm creating a separate version for use on B&N, Smashwords, and the rest.
Because different retail sites use different
formats, and maybe your publisher doesn't work with Apple
iBooks.
So what about all those other
formats you hear of, like
iBook, Mobi, KF8, Nook, ACS?
ePub3 gets close though — and even ahead of
iBooks in some things ePub2 is the common
format almost all Readers can display Mobi is the core of Kindle's
formats, displayed also by other Readers.
The only fly in the ointment is the dogged insistence at Amazon and Apple of sticking with their own proprietary
formats, particularly for the
formats that can handle complex documents (Amazon's KF9 and the one Apple's
iBooks Author creates).
But
iBooks doesn't all support these
formats except for epub.
So what I really need, is a tutorial on how to use Pages or
iBooks Author — or both, and perhaps even a text editor, to put together fixed
format ePubs.

Apple's iPad is a multi-function device that focuses on multimedia and some productivity apps, but also functions as an e-reader with a new
iBook store of EPub

format... just drag the file into the upper left area of iTunes.

iBooks application is compatible with the ePub
