Apple of course has their own
iBooks reading app, but I always caution people about buying from iBooks because the ebooks are permanently locked into Apple's ecosystem for good and can never be read on any other devices.

iBooks reading app works only on Apple devices, the Kindle reading app works on numerous competitor devices.

iBooks reads ePub files (all of Apple's books will be in ePub format), it's possible that the app would also read DRM - free ePub files from other sources.

Apple, the premier company delivering digital content, has become a serious contender ever since it decided to include
the iBook reading app in all updated iPhones.

The New York Times, for example, pointed out that both iTunes Movies and the
iBooks Store had competed directly or indirectly with Chinese services such as Tencent Video and Youku Tudou for video and China

read on any electronic reader like Kindle or
iBooks.

I think some people will likely game the system, but I have a feeling that if you constantly are filling out forms on
iBook purchases, just to
read for free Apple will likely start to moderate you or make you go through Apple Support.
If you decide to purchase an Android, Blackberry or Windows phone, you are simply out of luck with
reading anything you buy on
iBooks.

So if you're inclined to organize your library outside any vendor - specific apps, such as in Calibre, be aware that you won't be able to
read any DRMed titles from the
iBooks store outside
iBooks.
ADE does not have very good support for newer EPUB features and formatting, so you may not see the same thing in ADE as you do in better
reading systems like
iBooks and Readium.
And like iTunes, Calibre has the ability to convert between one ebook format and another: between ePub and mobi (old Kindle) or AZW3 (newer Kindle), say, or between LIT format files and ePub, so that you can
read that old Microsoft Reader book on the
iBooks app of your iPad or Mac.
If you want to
read on your iPad or iPhone and you don't want to use
iBooks at all, you do have a couple of other options.

And even if they don't, they're going to sell 50 million metric shitloads of Kindle books because you don't even need a Kindle to
read Kindle books... Amazon has readers for the iPad (which is way better than Apple's
iBooks app IMO), iPhone, Android devices, Blackberry, WinPhone 7, Windows, and OS X. I never would have predicted it, but I am a firm convert to Kindle books... and I don't even have a Kindle.
It appears that

From your basic InDesign document (s) you can easily export the best PDFs for print, colored PDFs for
reading online or on your iPad, ePUBs for
iBooks and Nook, and a Kindle version for Fire and the older versions.
Sadly (for Apple), I have to say that
iBooks is only used store PDFs; Amazon has my eBook business and will keep it until I can
read iBooks on my computer.
It has a small learning curve, includes interactivity and a huge amount of iOS devices in the market that
read iBooks.
