This is tremendously useful for schools that are pushing out digital textbook
apps or academic titles from the
iBookstore.
So far as we can tell, what this means is that book publishers will be able to supply ePub - formatted books for sale in Apple's
iBookstore, but that magazine and newspaper publishers will need to find their own way onto the device, either by building their own
apps or by contracting with an
app developer or service to publish their content via a third - party

While graphic novels are now making their way to the
iBookstore, the most popular way to read books on the iPad is via Comixology's Comics
app.
It appears that iBooks — that's the free e-reader
app previewed by Apple this week — and
iBookstore are exactly what they say: a system for users to purchase and read books.

That means you can't read
iBookstore purchases or Kindle store books in Stanza, but you can read free books from Project Gutenberg, the Random House Free Library, and buy books within the
app from Fictionwise, BooksOnBoard, and O'Reilly, among others.

Outside of Apple's
iBookstore, not many platforms support enhanced ebooks from within an
app — such as Kindle or Nook.
Apple goes on to say, «Just as we've allowed developers to set prices on the

iBookstore.»
That is, the
iBookstore will let you seamlessly buy books from within the iBooks reader
app, with the iTunes account it's already aware of.
I would have thought the Apple
iBookstore would have been the same as an
App unless I am missing something.
Assuming the iBooks
app and the
iBookstore have similar selection, pricing, and e-reader features, this one simple step could give Apple a substantial advantage over Amazon.
