iTunes Producer is the platform that allows you to upload your ebook to the iBooks Store.
Don't confuse
iTunes Producer with iBooks Author, which is an Apple publishing software.
Hi Ben, Yes, I go direct to Amazon, Kobo and iBooks (which you can do through
iTunes Producer & iTunes Connect to manage it) and then I use Draft2Digital for other retailers like Nook, Tolino etc..
I think perhaps you are using a different version of
iTunes Producer intended for apps rather than ebooks?
To upload and publish your ebook using
iTunes Producer you'll need a Mac computer and a validated EPUB file of your ebook.
Apple requires you to have — or have access to — a recent - model Mac to run its proprietary publishing software, called
iTunes Producer.
You can sign up directly with Apple, and download
their iTunes Producer app and create your book samples yourself, or you can use an eBook distribution service like BookBaby that does all the heavy lifting for you.
Finally, we'll pre-flight our book, and then publish it to the Apple iBook Store using
iTunes Producer.

Currently, uploading involves an Apple development tool called
