It said both companies had a long - term agreement for the purchase of
audiobooks by Apple from Amazon's Audible business for distribution via Apple's
iTunes store.
Apple has an extensive
audiobook selection in the
iTunes store and the source all of their content from Audible.
One of the more savvy moves for audio distribution was in 2003 when Audible signed an agreement with
iTunes to exclusively stock their
audiobook section of their
store.
At the moment, if you're an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch owner you can download and listen to Overdrive
audiobooks using the Overdrive Media Console (available from the
iTunes Store.)

iTunes has a license agreement with Audible to power their

audiobooks will only be sold through Rowling's new site.

However, as I've said on this blog before, it's crazy to purchase
audiobooks via the
iTunes Store rather than directly from Audible.com as the direct purchase allows re-downloads of any books you buy — and the
iTunes Store doesn't.
For example, if you've ripped a selection of
audiobooks from CD (rather than purchasing and downloading from the
iTunes Store) then there's a good chance that these ripped audio files will probably end up in the
iTunes Music folder instead of the Books section.
For example, most M4B based
audiobooks that you purchase from the
iTunes store are DRM protected and will play only in
iTunes and devices authorized via
iTunes.
With one of these accounts, you'll be able to buy or download free music, apps, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and
audiobooks from the
iTunes Store.
