An
"ice age" refers to a long period of time when the Earth's climate becomes very cold, causing glaciers and ice to cover large areas of land.
Full definition
There have been many warm periods, such as when the dinosaurs lived and many cold periods, such as the
last ice age of about 20,000 years ago.
The discovery
of ice ages in the distant past proved that climate could change radically over the entire globe, which seemed vastly beyond anything mere humans could provoke.
There has indeed been some warming, perhaps about 0.8 degrees Celsius, since the end of the so - called Little
Ice Age in the early 1800s.
What's more, if we continue emitting greenhouse gases at the same rate, we might have put off the
next ice age for at least half a million years.
Scientists who have studied past phases of climate change have found that iron dust may have caused similar effects
during ice ages and are hoping to replicate those without causing unwanted fallout.
The application of trends to climate data began in the 1970s with the prediction of a
coming ice age as temperatures declined from 1940.
-- Yes, and yet the industrial age and major increases in population and expansion into new territories all began at the end of the little
ice age as well.
It was formed as a limestone cave system during the last
ice age when sea levels were much lower.
Climate: Despite all scientific research, earth might be headed to a new
mini ice age with significant colder winters according to several researchers.
He also wants them to go over the history of climate change research, focusing
on ice ages and previous cooling and warming cycles, among other topics.
It looks like they, or something, is affecting the climate enough to keep the next
ice age at bay for a few more years.
My point being that the Last
major Ice Age ended only 10 - 15,000 years ago and we have had major cycles of climate change which trend towards a warmer climate.
So on a shorter time scale of say, 5,000 years, the natural variations of going into and out of
ice ages DO N'T average out.
Once the growth of Little
Ice Age glaciers stopped, and groundwater base flow was no longer offset, we would expect sea levels to rise as witnessed during the 19th and 20th centuries.
This line marks a deep ocean channel that remained water - filled even during
past ice ages, when sea levels saw channels between other islands in the region dry out.
As preparation for an
impending Ice Age, a new project, half science experiment half live - entertainment, is launched.
This may also help explain the cyclical rise and fall of
ice ages over hundreds of thousands of years.
In fact, just cancel that next
Ice Age movie and put all those people to work on it instead.

Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes the best anime, and we'll all be frozen in a second
ice age before we settle on the best anime of all time.
At this early stage of knowledge, what was being studied were the glacial periods within the past few hundred thousand years, during the
current ice age.
So ask yourself the question: where does all the carbon dioxide come from in
previous ice ages?
After all, nobody had in fact published a firm prediction of an
imminent ice age or runaway global warming in a peer - reviewed scientific journal.
Furthermore, deforestation in the middle — high latitudes might have amplified Little
Ice Age cooling by exposing more snow and increasing surface albedo (107, 110, 111).
