Since so much of the
ice sheet is grounded underwater, rising sea levels may have the effect of lifting the sheets, allowing more - and increasingly warmer - water underneath it, leading to further bottom melting, more
ice shelf disintegration, accelerated glacial flow, and further sea level rise, and so
on and
on, another vicious
cycle.
By matching these isotope ratios to the astronomical

As astronomical
cycles they are predictable into the future and will cause another
ice age probably in around 50,000 years (that depends
on where the threshold for glaciation is, and what future CO2 levels will be at that time), but there is no way the Milankovich
cycles could explain the current global warming.
Do you have any comment

... Polar amplification explains in part why Greenland
Ice Sheet and the West Antarctic
Ice Sheet appear to be highly sensitive to relatively small increases in CO2 concentration and global mean temperature... Polar amplification occurs if the magnitude of zonally averaged surface temperature change at high latitudes exceeds the globally averaged temperature change, in response to climate forcings and
on time scales greater than the annual
cycle.
# 29 — the phenomenon of greenhouse gases retaining heat at the surface of the earth operates
on decadal scales, and the orbital variations (Milankovitch
cycles) which cause the waxing and waning of the
ice ages operate
on millennial scales, and both are fundamental physical processes, and are not elucidated by computer models.
Furiously destructive Hurricanes are not the only indicator of AGW, in context of those Hurricanes
cycles in the past, or rather in contrast with past high intensity hurricane seasons, we now experience all time high temperatures raging everywhere in the world, 1 meter a day rainfalls, severe droughts
on 4 distinct continents, many glaciers going or gone everywhere, and a good chunk of the Arctic Ocean permanent
ice melted.
Polar amplication is of global concern due to the potential effects of future warming
on ice sheet stability and, therefore, global sea level (see Sections 5.6.1, 5.8.1 and Chapter 13) and carbon
cycle feedbacks such as those linked with permafrost melting (see Chapter 6)... The magnitude of polar amplification depends
on the relative strength and duration of different climate feedbacks, which determine the transient and equilibrium response to external forcings.

Aslo, regarding climate sensitivity a very key thing to remember, especially if sensitivity turns out to be
on the high side, is that the «final» equilibrium temperature (Alexi's concerns about there being such a thing aside) calculated from climate sensitivity does not take into account carbon
cycle feedbacks OR
ice sheet changes.

And guaranties that the cited above G8 deal is dead

on Carbon reductions, The Senator and acolytes would have trouble explaining the disappearing Arctic Ocean
ice, not that someone is capable of «Hoaxing» vanishing multi year
ice, and even further, failing to match their statements with Polar
ice disappearing in tandem with world wide temperatures being flat, not rising for ten years now, as they like to claim, how to explain the disappearing
ice then??? Those trying to explain a long term
cycle, beware!
So, I tend to believe the new results, they confirm what has been shown by several other studies — human - caused CO2 has a large enough effect lasting long enough that it will greatly affect the natural
ice - age
cycling — but I'll listen to Peter, Andre and the others with great interest, and I don't think this is the last word
on exactly what CO2 level is needed for exactly what orbital configuration for
ice - age initiation.

ice nuclei, precipitation efficiency, and the ratio between solar direct and diffuse radiation received.
To estimate the ESS from these
cycles you'd need to know what the separate impacts the CO2 and the orbital forcing had
on the
ice sheets, and that is not possible just from these data.
