The phrase
"ice edge" refers to the boundary where solid ice meets open water, usually in oceans or large bodies of water. It marks the transition from areas covered in ice to areas that are free of ice.

The 40 % concentration

ice edge forecasts by assimilating high horizontal resolution sea ice concentration data into the US Navy's ice forecast systems.
A significant northward trend (reduction of ice) in the winter -
