UCI glaciologists have created new maps of this part of Greenland using data from NASA missions and learned why some of the massive,
moving ice slabs are more vulnerable to melting than others.
Although Toronto's location on Lake Ontario gives it one of Canada's balmier climates, the surrounding area can seem like one
big ice slab in winter.

It might be more possible than we might expect, too, since a growing line of research increasingly shows Europa is not a cold, dead world: Its surface is likely roiling with
giant ice slabs that are cracking, breaking up, sinking, and melting.
«Adding salt to
an ice slab would be like adding little weights to it because salt is denser than ice,» Johnson said.
By tracking changes in crevasses on the glaciers» surfaces, they calculated the speed at which
the ice slabs were moving.
