It seems odd that you'd try to suggest otherwise... especially when there's nothing wrong with eating a bit
of iceberg lettuce in the first place.
The trouble is, that sad looking
iceberg lettuce salad with bottled dressing not only is devoid of nutrients but it's also boring.
Place 1 slice of
iceberg lettuce on each plate and spoon about 1/4 cup dressing over each.
I made this yesterday with purple cabbage because I'm sorry, but I do not care
for iceberg lettuce.
We're not talking
about iceberg lettuce, mind you — that is simply water (and often pesticides) disguised as a vegetable.
Not to say there isn't a salad bar; there is, but we have the
standard iceberg lettuce with a creamy dressing type of fare.
In a large bowl,
combine iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, avocado, hard - boiled eggs, ham, and 1 tablespoon oil; toss gently to coat.
With lots of crunch
from iceberg lettuce this strawberry topped salad is perfect for dinner or served at the beginning of a meal.
Serve on your favourite hamburger bun with crispy
fresh iceberg lettuce, a fat slice of fresh tomato, a generous fresh basil leaf and if you like, a slice of crispy bacon.
Before you start rolling your eyes and reaching for the organic kale,
give iceberg lettuce a little respect.
And although I'd eat
iceberg lettuce if I liked it more, a cup of raw spinach has more vitamin A than a cup of broccoli or asparagus.
It consists of one head
of iceberg lettuce cut into quarters plus a good sweet crisp watermelon dressed with a light and clean, olive oil + salt + black pepper dressing.
This could be in the form of a green smoothie for breakfast, or a big green salad for lunch or dinner (
iceberg lettuce doesn't count as a green).
I've included the nutrition analysis in case, like most people, you
think iceberg lettuce is mostly water and doesn't have any nutrients!
My Mother's «Pear Salad» was canned pear halves on
iceberg lettuce leaves with a dollop of «Duke's Mayonaise» and a sprinling of «Rat Cheese», aka cheddar;)
I find the outer leaves of
Iceberg lettuce makes the best wraps, they are crisp and pliable and the leaves are large enough to make decent size wraps.
