Swapping the dream of white picked fence for the open road has long been my personal choice and while I never let the societal pressure stop me from following it, there's nothing more reassuring, inspiring and motivating than knowing that you're not walking a lonely path; that there are hundreds of others just like you, who didn't want to base
their idea of happiness on the social norms and instead, decided to create it for themselves.
Meant to be Happy is a blog that explores
the idea of happiness and the many habits, ways of thinking, beliefs, and characteristics that stem from it and feed into it.
A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor — such is
my idea of happiness.
As the subject of the lesson, let's use
the idea of happiness.
I know that
my idea of happiness is different from other people's and I like that.

ideas to the human psyche, with

This is purported to be an improvement over the ancient Greek
idea that to be ethical is to value as the only source
of secure
happiness that which can not be taken away from one, such as, for example, a simple, ordered, tranquil life, passed mainly in contemplation and the enjoyment
of secure friendship — a life relatively immune to disaster.
But, as a parent, it conflicts with my
idea and experience
of parenthood, which has everything to say in favor
of the future lives
of those children and their
happiness, and nothing whatever to do with perpetuating me.
When the founding fathers wrote about the pursuit
of happiness in the Declaration
of Independence, they had in mind the
idea that governments should follow the example
of God in respecting individuals to make their own decisions, and treat everyone equally and fairly under the law.
I am not certain that this

of marijuana users involves everything conservatives are against: intrusion into private lives
of citizens, over arching government control, increased government spending and waste and it goes completely against the

I don't think we can all present this
idea of a picture perfect life and expect
happiness to flow from it.

of happiness ~ an impromptu picnic with a friend is always a good

I've said it before, but I think one
of the biggest misconceptions running rampant through our culture is this
idea that
happiness is a fortuity; that it's something we stumble upon if we're in the right place at the right time or if we wake up on the right side
of the bed.

Ideas of freedom, justice,
happiness, equality, fairness and all the other values we may live by are human inventions, and we can be proud
of that, as we strive to live up to them.
THE Founding Fathers liked
happiness so much they declared its pursuit an inalienable right
of US citizens, but maybe this wasn't such a good
