ideas makes this game one
of the best games in the launch lineup!
As I said, they justly said in that video that this is greatly inspired from Mario 3D Land and that they added new
ideas, which surely mean they added new
elements of gameplay / ennemies, environments, etc based on the 3DLand formula to do improvements on it, and they also said that they primarly wanted to do a multiplayer game and thought that 3D Land formula was the most adapted for that
Heading ever deeper underground, Samus Returns blends many
of the
elements that Metroid II: Return
of Samus is known for and some new and original
gameplay ideas designed purely for the remake.

of the game was to allow players to do lots
of things - the dev team took one
element at a time, and then worked to «multiply» them in order to broaden the scope
of each action - multiple developers discussed how climbing would be fun to add into the game - one dev thought it would be fun to climb moving things, which eventually lead to climbing windmills and enemies to fight - the Octo Ballon is an item that came to be following the experimentation
of a programmer - the dev wasn't sure the
idea was okay to do, but tried it anyway and the rest
of the team seemed to enjoy it - by combining various actions, objects, the game's world itself, you get tons
of gameplay variety and
ideas - keeping these options in mind may lead you to beating a boss or solving a puzzle in a unique way
The game combines classic
gameplay elements and
ideas from the 2D titles, while incorporating the 3D
elements of Prime.

One thing I will mention, is that it seems Sonic Team have attempted to include a variety
of new
ideas to mix up the levels — particularly in Lost Labyrinth Zone, which introduces a few new
gameplay elements.
Niji takes that basic
idea, adds some key
elements (including multiplayer), and takes an already addictive concept to the next level, all in a visual style influenced by traditional Japanese art and at least one
gameplay element that reminded me
of playing Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future.
That said, STAR CITIZEN is far from launching, arguably far from beta (by «beta» I mean the original
idea of being «feature - complete», having all the
elements of gameplay in the game, even if they don't have all the regions / planets / stars / etc.), so keep on holding their feet to the fire.
In the first title it really sticks to the core Mega Man
elements of shooting and platforming, but in the second title we start to see the developer open the playbook in terms
of different
gameplay ideas.
I must admit, the inclusion
of water physics was a great
idea, and adds a new
element to
gameplay, though it's not perfect - the water has a sort
of «globby» feel to it, sometimes not quite reacting how you might expect and running more like oil.
At one end
of the video game narrative spectrum, there are the games that have an
idea of how they should play and
elements are deducted from the story in order to facilitate the
gameplay elements.
The strongest
element in the
gameplay by far is how it links the story with the types
of enemies, the combat and challenges that you are presented giving you an
idea on how raptures idealic utopia became such a horrible dystopian mess.
It's the same basic gallery shooter with
ideas from TI Invaders, but the
gameplay elements are original: bullet rain, precise motion, small hit box, crazy particles, many different power - ups, constant rain
of power - ups, icon showers, multi-layer shields, etc..
