experience of anything like that,
and any such
idea would be highly speculative
and would risk missing the meaning of the terms «intellect,»
and «abstraction,» since these terms are employed based
on an
experience we really have.
Presumably, if the
idea of God is to be even minimally significant, some sort of religious
experience is necessary.16 This appeal to religious

on why we pay attention when certain people speak
and why we find what they say convincing: «The term testimony should be applied to words, works, actions,
and to lives which attest to an intention, an inspiration, an
idea at the heart of
experience and history which nonetheless transcend
experience and history.»
I often get responses from people who lean toward Option 1 as well, but in my
experience, most of these people are having thoughts
and ideas about Option 2,
and it scares them, so they fight against it by leaving comments

on defining religion, Berger approvingly refers to Rudolf Otto's
