No place on earth is the
worlds of game design, tech, and the
arts colliding into such a supportive ecosystem
of ideas and opportunity.
All
of this emerged from studio veteran Jan - Bart van Beek — the
art director besotted with the
idea of a
world in which machines were as natural as the wildlife.
This is a nice
idea that will help take children out
of the virtual gaming
world and into
arts and crafts to vary their interactions with the console.
The game's 3D
art looks like 2D cel animation, and the game's artists have a strong
idea of how Dragon Ball's
world should look.
I like the
idea of big RPGs like Skyrim and Dragon Age in principle, but too often I get a look at the
art design and think «Is this a
world I want to spend that much time in?»
Extending that line
of thought will get you to the
idea that perhaps the master antagonist
of that trip to Subcon, Wart, should turn up in the Yoshi's Island
world as well as this work
of fan
art from Michael Julius Peterson demonstrates.
Even as one very visible portion
of the
art world becomes ever more soaked in money, artists like Steiner are picking up the
ideas of first - and second - generation institutional critique and adapting them to the needs
