lung function more extensively later in life, and at more sites to
identify those participants at highest risk of developing severe breathing
disorders in adulthood,» Dr. Doyle said.
A number of easily
identified disorders can cause such shortness of breath (dyspnea, in technical terms), including asthma,
lung infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (or COPD, an umbrella term for various conditions that permanently impair airflow through the
lungs).
