As is routine in sexual assault cases,
the identities of the complainants and key crown witnesses in the case are protected by a sweeping publication ban creating an imbalanced one - sided shield of anonymity — an imbalance that prompted Blatchford to conduct an intriguing «social experiment».
A publication ban to protect
the identity of the complainant is automatic if the applicant is a minor and will automatically be granted on request to an applicant related to an intimate images proceeding.
When notifying authors that their comments are subject to defamation complaints, website operators would have to conceal
the identity of the complainant from those authors if such anonymisation is sought by the complainants.
The Board will not confirm

At the option of the association, the complaint itself may be provided to the respondent, including
the identity of the complainant.
Alternatively, the complaint itself and
the identity of the complainant may be kept confidential and unavailable to the respondent.
If an association has adopted the practice of allowing
the identity of the complainant to be kept confidential, the complainant shall be advised when filing a complaint that their identity will not remain confidential should the respondent request a hearing.
