Through humor, we can ridicule
these idols of greed or indulgence or legalism, cut them down to size and expose them for what they are: empty promises, impotent objects of our worship.

More introspective Jews would meditate on the sins
of greed, envy, selfishness and indifference and how to take them out
of their lives, replacing them with appreciation
of the abundance they do have in their lives, sensitivity to the suffering
of others, the falseness
of the
idol of acqusitiveness and unlimited material success and the realization that responding to the needs
of the entire human family is the path to G - d's favor.
