Torchlight does it amazingly, the graphics look like Team Fortress 2 met Diablo 2, and the lack of multiplayer is a small misstep, but considering I hated Diablo 2 single player and love this, you owe it to yourself to buy this game
if you are even glancing at this review.
Torchlight is firstly, a great game
if you fancy something to pick up and play for an hour or two and feel a sense of doing something worthwile.
If you liked the original Diablo or simlilar hack»n' slay games - then you will LOVE
Torchlight.
It's only fallen out of favour recently because of a glitch:
if you lose your portal into wherever you were in the infinitely deep dungeon (the Shadow Vault), you have to start it all over again, it seems (at which point you might as well make a new character...) Single player only; roll on
Torchlight 2 (which will have more than 3 classes, and co-op!)
Torchlight is a tribute to the genre of action RPGs - but
if you have never played an action RPG before, do yourself a favor and play Diablo first.
However, games like
Torchlight have proven that this can be done effectively
if the combat onscreen is exciting and engaging.
If you're already bored with Diablo 3 or just want something a little less «mainstream» then you can't go wrong with
Torchlight 2.

Torchlight 2 is the king of fantasy weapons.

Torchlight also reveals what equipment you need to gain access to certain areas:
if a vent is lit up green when you shine your torch over it, lobbing a grenade will do the trick to blow a route open,
if a door turns purple, you'll need your foam gun in order to gain access,
if something glows red, firing a missile will open the path and so on.
Victor Vran would be a real standout
if we didn't already have Bastion's narrator, Diablo's combat, or
Torchlight's cartoonishly attractive loot system.
If Gears or Skyrim can do it, so can
Torchlight 2!
