I don't know if the Altezza (Lexus IS in the States) has had
ignition problems in the past.
I had one vehicle that fairly regularly had electrical
ignition problems and would use the starter to get it to the next suitable spot to stop on the shoulder and fix it.
The lack of action when General Motors found out about a series of
ignition problems in their vehicles is just the latest example.
All are traits she will call upon as she is challenged to explain why, with her background in manufacturing, she was not aware of the faulty -
ignition problem before December.
Anyway, in my mind this definitely points to
an ignition problem.

After diagnosis it looks like the
ignition switch, when it does the no crank I can hold the key in the start position and wobble the key - lock cylinder around and it will crank, its like it does not quite engage the switch when the interior temps get to a certain point, strange issue I have never run into before but think I found the
problem or least narrowed it down to the switch or gears.
Apparently headliner issues,
ignition coil
problems and in my prior vehicle a heat shield issue which became a huge issue for me over time, are not exclusive to just me or bad luck.

problem (basically, the fuse socket's connection to the
ignition system was lost due to bits of broken copper wire stuck deep in the socket, from an earlier broken fuse having been «fixed» with wire under a previous owner).
The biggest
problem with the Sky wasn't the packaging but the
ignition switch.
If you haven't changed your spark plugs, crumbling valve cover gaskets that leak into the spark plug wells were a common
problem on the 05 - 06 VQ35DE REV - UP engines, so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to at least pull the
ignition coils and check them for oil.
If you see spark go to the next step, if not you have a
problem in the
ignition system.
If this works, this is likely a
problem with the
ignition switch or starting mechanism controlled by the
ignition switch.
For those that encounter a similar situation, replacing the spark plug got the lawn mower running, but it now only starts when cold, which is (apparently) usually a
problem with the
ignition coil.
There are many other
problems I would suspect like vacuum leaks, fuel supply issues, and
ignition issues all of which would be much cheaper to fix.
I had some
problems with starting
ignition.
The
problem was with the
ignition, as mentioned it was putting out much less than 12v when turned to start (~ 9v).
Other
problems with GM processes meant that this defect continued, such as an instance of changing the
ignition switch part without changing the part number.
The result is an incorrect air - fuel mixture than can create a number of
problems, such as hard starting, a rough idle, hesitation, misfiring or a drop in fuel economy — issues that could, without proper diagnosis, seem to have other causes, such as incorrect
ignition timing or fouled spark plugs.
Orange sparks are like slow sparks that miss fire and creates other
problems, so blue is more effective and that's how
ignitions are designed to properly be efficient.
This would point towards a
problem with the
ignition switch circuits, in that turning the key has no effect - do any of the other electronics work?
If it still won't start, the
problem is most likely in your
ignition switch.
Apparently the initial
problem was with the
ignition coils and that has been causing the
problems with the catalytic converter.
It is possible that the key can be in the first of the three
ignition positions without causing the
problem, but I'm not going to try and find out.
The
problem could also be in your
ignition switch or with the cars immobilizer but I'd rule out a low battery first.
The
problem arises if you turn the
ignition on when it is disconnected as the ECU may log a fault code a throw a check engine light.
30 minutes later, with the car having done nothing but sat parked for those 30 minutes, I tried to start the car to go somewhere, but while the starter motor and fan start fine (so the electrics seem good still unlike the previous
problem), the engine doesn't join in - the starter cranks and makes the normal whup - whup - whup sound, the fan whirs until I release the
ignition, but no gas
ignition.
The
problem: In vehicles with a gate - type shifter, pressing the Start / Stop button may not turn off the
ignition.

ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in Park.
