I don't know if the Altezza (Lexus IS in the States) has had
ignition problems in the past.
The lack of action when General Motors found out about a series of
ignition problems in their vehicles is just the latest example.
Orange sparks could mean
ignition problem in the coil, a bad ground or too much resistance.
Not exact matches
Problems with the
ignition switch were identified within the company as early as 2001
in a pre-production report for the model year 2003 Saturn Ion, according to documents provided last year to the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

problem in the

After diagnosis it looks like the
ignition switch, when it does the no crank I can hold the key
in the start position and wobble the key - lock cylinder around and it will crank, its like it does not quite engage the switch when the interior temps get to a certain point, strange issue I have never run into before but think I found the
problem or least narrowed it down to the switch or gears.
Apparently headliner issues,
ignition coil
problems and
in my prior vehicle a heat shield issue which became a huge issue for me over time, are not exclusive to just me or bad luck.
All are traits she will call upon as she is challenged to explain why, with her background
in manufacturing, she was not aware of the faulty -
ignition problem before December.

problem (basically, the fuse socket's connection to the
ignition system was lost due to bits of broken copper wire stuck deep
in the socket, from an earlier broken fuse having been «fixed» with wire under a previous owner).
If you see spark go to the next step, if not you have a
problem in the
ignition system.
Anyway,
in my mind this definitely points to an
ignition problem.
The result is an incorrect air - fuel mixture than can create a number of
problems, such as hard starting, a rough idle, hesitation, misfiring or a drop
in fuel economy — issues that could, without proper diagnosis, seem to have other causes, such as incorrect
ignition timing or fouled spark plugs.
This would point towards a
problem with the
ignition switch circuits,
in that turning the key has no effect - do any of the other electronics work?
If it still won't start, the
problem is most likely
in your
ignition switch.
It is possible that the key can be
in the first of the three
ignition positions without causing the
problem, but I'm not going to try and find out.
The
problem could also be
in your
ignition switch or with the cars immobilizer but I'd rule out a low battery first.
30 minutes later, with the car having done nothing but sat parked for those 30 minutes, I tried to start the car to go somewhere, but while the starter motor and fan start fine (so the electrics seem good still unlike the previous
problem), the engine doesn't join
in - the starter cranks and makes the normal whup - whup - whup sound, the fan whirs until I release the
ignition, but no gas
ignition.
The
problem:
In vehicles with a gate - type shifter, pressing the Start / Stop button may not turn off the
ignition.
The
Problem: The electronic park lock lever may allow the
ignition key to be removed without the transmission being
in Park.
However, vehicle rollaway can still be a
problem in vehicles equipped with a keyless
ignition or push - button start feature when the vehicle has been turned off and not shifted into park.
There have been reports that auto journalists who drove the new Cobalt
in 2004 complained about the
ignition key
problem.
The mechanic will check the other systems
in your vehicle's
ignition system, such as the starter, battery, and alternator, to make sure those parts are not causing the
problem.
The most - reported
problem is with the 2003 Ford Focus for key won't turn
in the
ignition.
In May 2014 the NHTSA fined the company $ 35 million for failing to recall cars with faulty
ignition switches for a decade, despite knowing there was a
problem with the switches.
A misfire under load is typically caused by a
problem in the secondary

Had persistent overnight phantom battery drain for the first 6 weeks until we identified the
problem as a damaged 6 stack CD player that was trying to load and eject jammed CDs all night PLUS a worn out
ignition lock that allowed the key to be removed
in the «Acc» position.
In cases like this, to prevent future
problems, your mechanic may recommend to replace all three rear
ignition coils.

A few
problems I have encounterd: Horn blowing
in the middle of the night, locked out of the vehicle, Windshield wipers turning on for no reason, windows going up and down when the vehicle is parked, radio changing stations for no reason, lights blinking on and off while parked and now the
ignition system as failed.
The
problem lies
in a binding solenoid latch which may allow drivers to remove the key from the
ignition prior to the vehicle's shifter being placed
in «Park.»
«key stuck
in the
ignition» has been an intermittent
problem for over a year.
Subaru addresses this
problem by altering the programming
in the Engine Control Module to delay
ignition timing, making the exhaust gasses hotter, which helps the catalytic converter heat up sooner, reducing emissions.
Diagnostic fault codes were stored
in the computer's memory, and cycling the
ignition key three times would allow the computer to flash the trouble codes through the check - engine light for diagnosis of some
problems.
In February 2014, General Motors acknowledged the
problem and issued a public apology to the families of at least 14 people who have been killed and more than 17 who were injured from the faulty
