The research project will come to an end in 2020 with the
publication of an
illustrated and critical work, and an exhibition dedicated to the best non-fiction
titles published worldwide.
A «catalogue raisonnĂ©» is a systematic and comprehensive scholarly reference text in which each work known to have been executed by a particular artist is
illustrated, thoroughly documented and described, giving information such as
title, alternative
titles, date, medium, size, inscriptions, provenance, exhibition history, and
publication history, and in which each work is assigned a permanent reference number.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a
publication of the same
title, a beautifully
illustrated catalogue of works edited by Joanna Marschner, with the assistance of David Bindman and Lisa Ford.
Alongside its written instructions, the
publication provides
illustrated examples of good and bad flags, thus its
title.
Her
illustrated papers in this series have included an essay on astronomical themes in Marcel Proust's novel In Search of Lost Time (published by an Italian scientific journal); an essay on astronomy and existentialism in the fiction of Albert Camus (
publication pending); and a photographic essay
titled «Paris Solstice» inspired by Proust's novel and French astronomical history (Canopus Press, 2004).
