images of happy dogs and people enjoying walks without the use of precise heels or painful collars.

In the new study, the researchers trained
dogs to discriminate between
images of the same person making either a
happy or an angry face.
So, for this study, 11
dogs (mostly border collies, plus a sheltie and a fox terrier) stood in front
of a little kiosk with a computer screen showing them two
images of the same person making an angry face or a
happy face.
All you have to do is take a closer look at the many videos and photographs found on social media sites
of small children climbing over, sitting on, hugging and being close to
dogs» faces to realise that most
of these
images are not depicting a relaxed and
happy dog.
For many new
dog owners,
dog daycare conjures
images of fluffy friends romping and playing, maybe stopping for a mid-afternoon snooze in a quiet sun spot, and returning home at the end
of the day tired and
happy.
It came up in the first page
of returns on a Google
image search for «
Happy Dogs.»
When the
images of happy faces and voices were shown to the
dogs, the
dogs paid more attention to the
images being shown to them.
They may have mental
images of happy times romping with the
dog on the beach, or curling up in front
of the fireplace,
of playing Frisbee in the park or
of hunting with a loyal companion.
