The lander used the Scanning Camera 2 for a 300 degree
image of Chryse Planitia, while the
Sun shined in the west.
The reflection levels are normal, and as demonstrated in the first
image below, I also tested it with the
sun shining directly onto 1/3
of the display, and as you can see, it hardly has any effect at all on the right side
of the screen.
Some
images capture the clarity
of icy stalagmites as the
sun shines through, while others focus on the convergence
of icebergs.
If the
Sun is close to the horizon and feathery cirrus clouds sit high in the sky, «ghost»
images of the
Sun will sometimes materialize on either side
of it, giving the appearance
of three Suns
shining in the sky.
The
image turned out brighter than the Pixel 2 XL's shot, making it easier to tell that the
sun was
shining, although I could make out a great amount
of detail in the leaves on both photos.
We found that the main cameras
of the Samsung Ativ S and the Nokia Lumia 920 delivers pretty similar daytime
images, however, the Lumia 920
shines when the
sun goes down due to its optical
image stabilization which helps a lot in low light conditions.
