of paper, he was able to create 54
images in total, presented here as facsimiles, so that both
sides of each piece
of paper can be viewed at the same time.
The process more closely resembles printmaking than traditional painting, and involves the artist drawing an
image on one
side of a sheet
of paper, and coating the reverse in paint.

By printing only
on the very edge
of the
paper,
images are formed
on each
side of the sculpture through the accumulation
of stacked sheets
of paper.
In a second room, the
image presented is one
of a bulletin board area in Therrien's kitchen, referred to as the «Other Room» by the artist, which has been replicated — down to the pinholes and folded edges
of particular
papers — in his studio,
on the literal other
side of his kitchen wall.

To create her works, Dyrlaga first sketches out the
image she wants
on the reverse
side of the
paper sheet in question, and cuts out each little detail with a sharp scalpel, editing and changing the
image as she goes.
Unlike many other coloring books, Melissa designed the pages with
images only
on one
side of the
paper which makes the pages ideal for framing.
I took a piece
of freezer
paper (slightly larger than the
image size) and placed the shiny
side down
on my cutting mat and placed the seahorse
image on top.
