The series begins by focusing on the branches of the trees, and, progressing from one image to the next, narrows its focus, culminating with several images of a single leaf.

The first exhibition celebrating British history painting will include the haunting image of a tree once used to hang slaves in the US, taken by artist and director Steve McQueen when scouting locations for his Oscar - winning film 12 Years a Slave.

Adjacent to this room are ethereal photographs by Ola Rindal whose images of skies, buildings and trees are suffused in a soft light that gives them an almost abstract and uncanny presence.

Accompanying the exhibition's large - scale video works will be Richardson's latest series of chromogenic prints, Pillars of Dawn, which present images of an imaginary desert in which trees and terrain have been physically crystallised by changes in the environment.
