teachers and mentors — not just monitors — play; the persistence district schools must have as they navigate the inevitable bumps on the road to
implementing successfully blended learning; and the important

implemented at her New South Wales school, where all Year 6 students have the opportunity to take on a
leadership role.
In addition,
teachers are forging a number of new and unique
leadership roles through their own initiative by developing and
implementing programs they personally believe will result in positive change (Troen & Boles, 1992).
For example, as districts create and
implement career pathway systems, the IDOE may need to advise districts on how to compensate
teachers who take on
leadership roles with additional responsibilities and provide additional funding for this purpose.
Multiple studies have demonstrated that organizations that prioritize a performance - management system that supports employees» professional growth outperform organizations that do not.25 Similar to all professionals,
teachers need feedback and opportunities to develop and refine their practices.26 As their expertise increases, excellent
teachers want to take on additional responsibilities and assume
leadership roles within their schools.27 Unfortunately, few educators currently receive these kinds of opportunities for professional learning and growth.28 For example, well - developed, sustained professional learning communities, or PLCs, can serve as powerful levers to improve teaching practice and increase student achievement.29 When
implemented poorly, however, PLCs result in little to no positive change in school performance.30
These include
implementing new professional learning programs for
teachers, developing a robust technology infrastructure to support student - centered learning, and funding new
leadership roles for educators who curate and create openly licensed educational materials.
Under Rhee's
leadership, DCPS
implemented a new
teacher contract that permitted merit pay and reduced the
roles played by
teacher tenure and seniority.
To ensure that all students receive an excellent education, we must
implement a comprehensive approach to strengthening the teaching workforce, grounded in a coherent professional continuum that begins in preparation and leads to accomplished practice and the opportunity for
teachers to serve in
leadership roles.
Instead, most
teachers only have the chance to expand their
leadership responsibilities by assuming an administrative position, which requires them to leave the classroom entirely.4 Even if
teachers do not want to leave the classroom, pursuing a
role in administration may be their only way to achieve increases in pay, responsibility, and autonomy.5 Although some school districts
implement career pathways, diverse
leadership roles for
teachers are few and far between.
The

implementing cooperative learning in the classroom, colleagial teaching teams among
teachers, and school - based decision making.

leadership skills with various intra and interdisciplinary teams; affect healthcare by achieving positive outcomes through advanced practice
roles of a clinician,
teacher, manager, researcher, and consultant, and integrate theories from nursing and other disciplines for better long term decision - making.
