implications of any research project are important to consider and funding agencies increasingly require evidence that research plans and methods meet ethical guidelines.

implications for gender - responsive, trauma - informed programming, including prevention, risk reduction, staff training, and interventions directed toward the rehabilitative needs
of justice - involved women and girls.
There has been a paradigm shift in Indigenous health
research over the past 50 years, from researchers objectifying, to consulting, and, more recently, collaborating with Indigenous peoples.6 The focus is now on partnerships and Indigenous - directed
research.4 In practice, consultation and negotiation with Aboriginal communities are continual, and should achieve mutual understanding about the proposed
research.7 The community should be fully informed about the aims, methods,
implications and potential outcomes
of a
research project, so that they can decide whether to accept or oppose it.7
As this teacher
research project ended, I reflected on the
implications of this study for others in the field.
This event was part
of an NHMRC funded
research project «Evaluating the effectiveness
of comprehensive primary health care in local communities» being conducted at the Southgate Institute for Health Society and Equity at Flinders University The aim
of the symposium was to feed back some
of the key emerging findings from the study, and to engage primary health care practitioners and policy makers in debate and discussion about the
