In 1964, he was included in the exhibition Post-Painterly Abstraction curated by Clement Greenberg, which traveled the country and helped to firmly establish Color Field painting as an important new movement in the contemporary art of the 1960s.
This travelling exhibition, an important milestone in the career of the irish - based artist, comprises 36 paintings, all featuring trees, a thematic central to the artist's practice.
Griffin has been featured in several important U.S. exhibitions including Splat, Boom, Pow: The Influence of Cartoons in Contemporary Art, 1970 - 2000, at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the ICA Boston in 2003, and traveling to the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio in January, 2004; the 2002 Corcoran Biennial at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C; the Freestyle exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Santa Monica Museum of Art in 2001; and the 2000 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
«On the Other Side», a significant traveling exhibition featuring important sculptures by Richard Deacon from the past ten years, will go on display at the Langen Foundation in Neuss, Germany from 4 September 2015 until 5 March 2017.
Versions of the sculpture have been included in traveling museum solo exhibitions as well as important international group exhibitions, including the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2002); Whitney Biennial in Central Park, New York (2004); and Louvre's Sculpture Programme for FIAC in the Jardin des Tuileries, Paris (2010); among others.

Important solo exhibitions include a retrospective organized by the Albright - Knox Art Gallery that traveled to the Hirshhorn Museum, The Saint Louis Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Seattle Art Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Art (1992 - 1994); a survey at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Monterrey, Mexico (1996 - 1997); «Susan Rothenberg: Paintings from the 90's» at The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (1999); and an exhibition of drawings and prints at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University which traveled to the Contemporary Museum, Honolulu and the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe (1998 - 1999).
