President Donald J. Trump finally put the money where his mouth is and the Section 232 tariffs
on imported metals went into effect on March 23, 2018.
March 2, 2018 • The move announced Thursday is intended to bolster the domestic steel and aluminum industry, but manufacturers that
use imported metal are concerned about the consequences of the change.
Mr. Trump's authority to impose such sweeping tariffs stems from a Commerce Department investigation that concluded last month that
imported metal threatened national security by degrading the American industrial base.
