That said, American is ripe for a devaluation and still
imposes fuel surcharges for travel on British Airways, it's main partner for travel to Europe.

impose fuel surcharges on Delta flights to Hawaii and total fees for Delta flights to other locations like South America can be under $ 100, so it often depends on where your route.
If you are traveling through London, you can save hundreds of dollars by flying on American Airlines across the Atlantic, then transferring to British Airways in Europe for the flight to Santorini since BA does not
impose fuel surcharges on flights within Europe.
LifeMiles is a flexible program with decent redemption rates, but its single best feature is that it does not

I couldn't care less about the Air Canada reward chart, because Aeroplan
imposes fuel surcharges for awards tickets on Air Canada, while they don't for award tickets on their Star Alliance partners.
The Flying Blue program does
impose fuel surcharges, but they're not nearly as costly as those on some other airlines, such as British Airways.
This should work for Aeroplan awards on all Star Alliance partner carriers, and is a nice way to at least fly some airlines that ordinarily
impose fuel surcharges without paying the total amount.
The other negative here is that Delta
imposes fuel surcharges for travel on V Australia, so expect to pay somewhere around $ 400 for the award.
While this is a lot of miles, consider that United never
imposes fuel surcharges on its awards, which can save you a few hundred dollars.
However, they still don't
impose fuel surcharges, still don't have a distance based chart, and still didn't move to a fixed mile value / revenue based award chart, so I think we have seen some extreme over-reactions this morning.
Avianca is known for being one of the few foreign carriers that does not
impose fuel surcharges, but the airline does have some very quirky award ticketing rules and notoriously bad telephone customer service.
However, most ThankYou Points partners
impose fuel surcharges on nearly every award, while American Airlines miles
impose fuel surcharges only on British Airways and Iberia award flights.

imposes fuel surcharges for redemptions originating in Europe, so you wouldn't have to pay those.
Like most BA partners, it doesn't
impose fuel surcharges, just mandatory taxes and fees.
The award chart has some sweet spots, but Singapore does
impose fuel surcharges.
Adding to the value of its awards, the airline doesn't typically
impose fuel surcharges on its own flights.
Considering the fact that United does not pass on carrier
imposed fuel surcharges for award tickets even on partners, some people prefer to book partners such as Lufthansa with United miles to avoid these charges, even though 70,000 miles is higher than other programs would charge for that flight in business class.
