That's proved a winning strategy for Instagram's clone, according to a dozen analytics providers, social media celebrities, and talent managers who told TechCrunch they've seen a decline
in Snapchat Stories usage since Instagram Stories launched on August 2nd.
Users will also be able to tag others
in Snapchat Stories, so here's what you need to know.
Earlier this week
in my Snapchat stories, I mentioned that I was on track with my Lent commitments except for working out three times a week.
When someone tags you, you will get a notification in the chat window, alerting you that someone mentioned
you in their Snapchat Story.
Not exact matches
In other words, it creates and publishes video and photos and text and news
stories on a variety of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram,
Snapchat and more — and none of that content is designed to push readers to the company's website.
In August 2016, Zuckerberg announced the rollout of Instagram
Stories on the app, a feature strikingly similar to that of
Snapchat's, which the media and even designers at
Snapchat noticed and poked fun at.
Instagram's launch of
Stories has been credited by some as the trigger for a decline
in Snapchat's users base, something that analysts warned about when
Snapchat went public.
That's one interesting theory presented
in a new book about
Snapchat — «How to Turn Down a Billion Dollars: The
Snapchat Story» — that came out this week from former TechCrunch writer Billy Gallagher.
He explained: «Twitter hasn't really built a compelling
story around video, and
Snapchat is tying themselves to events
in a way that Twitter has as well.
Instagram's
Stories could well surpass
Snapchat in active users by the middle of the year, while Facebook is already testing similar
Story - like features for its Messenger and Facebook platforms.
Well, the elephant
in the room is Instagram, which blatantly (and admittedly) copied
Snapchat's
Stories platform.
You can introduce your brand and messaging
in fun and compelling ways through the function of the
Snapchat «
story.»
With millennials consuming more and more of their media through mobile devices and social platforms, executives at Indigenous Media bet that
Snapchat users would warm quickly to the idea of following a narrative
story posted
in regular installments to social media, as opposed to the traditional theatrical experience.
In a year when companies like Uber, Airbnb, and
Snapchat became a part of the exclusive Billion - Dollar Startup Club, it's obvious that founders like Travis Kalanik, Brian Chesky, and Evan Spiegel have officially become inspiring success
stories.
Goldman Sach's three video ads feature its 10,000 Women initiative, and will show up
in Snapchat's Live
Story for International Women's Day and
in the Discover channels of four publishers — BuzzFeed, Vice, National Geographic, and Refinery29.
Instagram's introduction of Nametags would be yet another example of how the platform is copying features from
Snapchat, dating back to the launch of Instagram
Stories in August 2016.
«It's no surprise we are seeing a rise
in «
stories» on platforms like
Snapchat and Instagram, as this format consists of linkable images and videos with the flexibility to vary content
in several ways,» said Eric Dahan, Open Influence CEO and co-founder.
Tasty and Proper Tasty are early steps
in BuzzFeed's strategy of publishing content directly to social media outlets like Facebook, Pinterest,
Snapchat, and Instagram, rather than posting links to
stories on BuzzFeed.com.
Snapchat is based
in Venice, California, and runs a Live
Story for Los Angeles every day where local users can submit photos.

Stories» has rolled out to users
in some parts of the U.S.
Snapchat hasn't commented on when it would become available to all users.
But the San Bernardino shooting was the first time
Snapchat had elevated a breaking news
story and made it viewable to everyone
in the U.S.
If you look at
Snapchat's three amazing innovations, ephemeral messages, filters and
stories, Zuckerberg has copied each one down to the pixel
in his arsenal of apps.
Stories like
Snapchat, a company with no revenue model, spurning a $ 3 billion offer, are incredibly rare but glorified by those whose best interests lie
in the acquisition of equity
in startups.
Growth
in Snapchat's user base slowed down last year after Facebook's Instagram copied
Snapchat's «
stories» feature, which lets users post short video clips that disappear after 24 hours.
The success of Instagram
Stories, the decline
in Snapchat usage we've heard from a wide array of sources, and Facebook's relentless drive to compete with the startup could spell trouble for
Snapchat's IPO on the NYSE market that's expected
in March.
Mary Ritti, a spokeswoman for
Snapchat, said
in an e-mail that people now send more than 700 million disappearing «snaps» a day, with more than 500 million
stories viewed daily.
In June, Instagram said its
Stories feature had 250 million users, compared with 166 million users for
Snapchat at the end of the first quarter.
Stories was launched
in 2016, and within a year this element of Instagram has attracted more users than all of
Snapchat.

On Tuesday, Facebook announced plans to invest more deeply

Snapchat.
The redesign mixes
Stories, where
Snapchat shows ads but which have seen stagnation
in sharing rates amidst competition from Instagram
Stories, into the more popular messaging inbox, where
Snapchat's ephemeral messaging is more differentiated and entrenched.
Snapchat's business plan is built around their
Stories feature, a popular feature which is arguably responsible for them experiencing a surge
in daily active users over the years.
For example,
in 2017 one of the most popular Bitmoji lenses was the
Snapchat hotdog lens — a dancing, animated hotdog that could be inserted into Snaps and
Stories.
It was revealed via the Gunners
Snapchat story that Francis Coquelin had been training
in the centre back position ahead of the game, posing the question of whether we could see Le Coq change positions this year?
A report is surfacing from MGoBlog.com that WR Dennis Norfleet shared a
Snapchat story that he was transferring to play at Tuskegee
in Alabama after being unable to get back on the team.
