If you sense that someone is not comfortable with dogs, keep your door closed and secure your
dog in a dog crate before allowing them into your house.
If you're strapped for cash, even old blankets will work just as well
in a dog crate as they can be moved around and washed easily.
This first
step in dog crate training can take a few days or several weeks, depending on your puppy's personality, so you need to be patient.
As a general rule, it's best not to leave
water in the dog crate, particularly when potty training your puppy.
Confine the
kittens in a dog crate, cat condo or cage with a small litter box, food, water and something snuggly to cuddle in.

If you are introducing a kitten to a dog, a stair gate won't be practical as they will easily be able to slip through the bars, so for safety reasons the initial introduction is best carried out by placing the
kitten in a dog crate.
Placing your
dog in a dog crate should never be a substitute for walks, exercise, play etcetera.
If you can't call your dog to you when it is highly distracted by your cat - then the dog is not under your control and it should either be on leash,
in a dog crate or wearing a remote collar.
If the gate accidentally shuts and make a lot of noise while the dog is
in the dog crate, it will scare the dog and most likely also create a feeling of entrapment.
The dog must either be
in a dog crate or on a leash in the house 100 % for a long long time.
For the safety of your puppy, leave him or
her in their dog crate!
Dog water bowls are easily knocked over
in dog crates.
If your dog is a house dog, put
him in the dog crate or another room at mealtime.
The bottom line is a dog may have to spend a long time (weeks)
in a dog crate or dog kennel for this process to work.
This means keeping an untrained dog on leash, in an ex-pen,
in a dog crate, or in a fenced yard when you can't supervise them.
During this initial work if he zoned out and did not pay attention I simply took him by the collar, without saying a word, put
him in his dog crate and walked away for 3 or 4 minutes.
Or for periods of under 5 hours, confine
him in a dog crate.
While you're packing, try not to isolate your dog
in a dog crate.
