in the soaring lofts and cathedrals of many a Chelsea
gallery.

Despite my mixed response to the exhibition at the time (not to the work, just to the fact that it seemed
rather tame
in the
gallery setting) looking back it was surely one of the strongest exhibitions of the year.
Rather than being displayed
in a straightforward and unambiguous way
in a
gallery or museum
setting, they are often separated from viewers by a framing device, such as a vitrine, a box, or other clear zone of demarcation.

settings in the 1990s and 2000s, Dennis Oppenheim (1938 - 2011) was dedicated to the proposition that art should be open to the world
rather than cloistered
in galleries and museums.
However
rather than displaying the pieces
in an austere
gallery space, the works will be installed overwhelming the domestic
setting of the bungalow, offering the viewer a radically altered perspective from which to engage the sculptures.
